Mrs. Elizabeth Grey Edwards | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Elizabeth Grey Cayton Edwards, age 94, a resident of 32 Cayton Road, Chocowinity, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at her home.

    Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, March 21, 2016 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Rev. Gene Williams. Burial will follow in Edwards Cemetery, Possum Track Road, Chocowinity.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Jason Jernigan, Bobby Adams, Eric Parker, Osbourne Clark, Gene Williams and Tommy Clark.

    Mrs. Edwards was born in Edenton, N.C. on August 4, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Henry Wade Cayton and Phoebe Bennett Cayton. Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker who enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. She was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. In her spare time, Mrs. Edwards enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, painting and writing poetry.

    Mrs. Edwards was married to James Wilson Edwards, who preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Edwards is survived by her son, James Norman "Jimmy" Edwards and his wife, Anne Carol Croom of LaGrange; her daughter, Barbara "Sue" Edwards Hamilton of Chocowinity; five grandchildren, Lindy Elizabeth Barr, Cathy Ray Sheppard, Pennie Edwards Banks, Amy Grey Jernigan, Mary Edwards Adams; nine great grandchildren, Jamie, Kelly, Joseph, Brandon, Lane, Cristiane, Brooke, Ariel, Holly Beth; and one great-great grandson, Zephyn.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by grandson, Johnnie Barr.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at her home.
