Gullfest 2016 Spring Scholarship Festival At BCCC | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

WASHINGTON, NC — The severe wind and rain ended Gullfest 2016 sooner than organizers would have liked, but vendors and participants tried to make the best of the circumstances. The Spring Scholarship Festival started at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, but intense winds prohibited vendors from setting up tents. The rain that followed forced organizers to shut down the event at 11:30 a.m.

This year's event featured an auto show with over 50 custom cars and trucks, great food, arts and crafts and exhibits from vendors. Children played in the Little Gull Zone, featuring a fire truck, McGruff the Crime Dog, face painting and more. The focus of the event was to engage community members with students, faculty and staff at BCCC so they can learn about opportunities at the College.

The big winners of the day were Rev. and Mrs. Charles McChesney, and Bill Wall, each of whom won a kayak. Kathleen Simpson won a $100 gift card to Speedway along with items from Hibbett's Sports. Lisa Woolard won a $40 gift certificate to Washington Quicklube along with items from Hibbett's Sports. Thomas Hamilton won four rounds of golf at Cypress Landing Golf Club. The $25 gift certificate to The Blue Crab went to Fred Williamson. Sheri Dean won items from Coca-Cola and Stewart's Jewelry. Lele Judy won a $20 gift certificate for Frank's Pizza and a free alignment at Pugh's Tire & Service Center of Washington. The Office Depot and Glora Sheler gift basket went to Shelby Raper and the toy tractor form Mitchell Tractor & Equipment went to Kevin Harrell. The New Holland toy combine tractor from Beaufort Equipment Company went to Garrett Voliva.

Funds raised will benefit students at BCCC who receive scholarships from the BCCC Foundation. Last year the Foundation helped reduce the debt burden on students and made quality education even more accessible at BCCC by awarding 112 scholarships totaling over $85,000.
