GREENVILLE, NC- Brian Floyd, president of Vidant Medical Center, has been confirmed to serve a five year membership appointment to the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM).

The NCIOM is an independent, quasi-state agency that was chartered by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1983 to provide balanced, nonpartisan information on issues of relevance to the health of North Carolina's population.

"We are very proud of Brian for being appointed to this prestigious organization and representing Vidant Health," said Dr. Michael Waldrum, CEO of Vidant Health. "He is very deserving of this honor and will work hard to ensure the needs of eastern North Carolinians are kept at the forefront of important discussions."

The NCIOM convenes task forces of knowledgeable and interested individuals to study complex health issues facing the state and develop workable solutions to address these issues. The NCIOM co-publishes with The Duke Endowment the North Carolina Medical Journal.

"I'm extremely honored to be part of the NCIOM and to help facilitate and participate in critical health care discussions," said Floyd. "I look forward to partnering with other health care leaders from across the state in finding solutions to many of the barriers that often impede progress in health care delivery.

Appointed by the Governor for five-year terms, the 100 active members of the Institute are drawn from government, education, business and industry, the health and legal professions, the hospital and health insurance industries, private philanthropy, the voluntary sector and the public at large.
