N.C. company critiqued for public stance against House Bill 2

    Shareholders of Raleigh-based Red Hat faced criticism Thursday in connection with the software company's public stance against North Carolina's House Bill 2.

    Justin Danhof, general counsel of the National Center for Public Policy Research, attended Red Hat's annual shareholders meeting to question the company about its endorsement of the U.S. Justice Department's legal action challenging H.B. 2, the so-called "bathroom law."

    After the meeting, Danhof discussed his remarks during an interview for Carolina Journal Radio. Carolina Journal Radio.

Union County official touts benefits of direct primary care

Hammocks Beach case highlighted importance of property-rights protection

    Property-rights advocates saw a major victory in 2015, when the state of North Carolina reached an agreement to buy land near Hammocks Beach State Park from its rightful owners. The agreement ended a long-running court battle in which the state had attempted to take the land without any compensation of its private owners.

    Attorney Ruth Sheehan of the Francis Law Firm, which represented the successful plaintiffs, shared details of the Hammocks Beach case Monday during a presentation on property rights and eminent domain for the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society. In the video clip above, Sheehan highlights key elements of the case.
