Plants need love too | Eastern North Carolina Now

PETA tells me that I should not eat meat because the animals are not killed humanely.  My experience tells me that there is no humane way to kill someone.  I am in agreement that we should not abuse or mistreat animals and that would normally fall under the category of simple human kindness.

However, it is a stretch for me and many others that believe we should elevate animals to a position higher than humans.

   Here is PETA's  Mission Statement

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 5 million members and supporters.

PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in the food industry, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.

PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. http://www.peta.org/about-peta/

It is interesting to me that Donations to PETA are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by U.S. law.  Maybe there is more to the agenda here than appears on the service. Here is their rating on the Charity Navigator site.

In the interest of fair play, I have considered forming a nonprofit charity for the protection of plants.  I would call it the BOBBY TONY FOR ETHICAL TREATMENT OF PLANTS or BTE-TOP. In true fund raising tradition, I have created a logo for my potential charity that I think conveys the proper respect we should have for sensitive and vulnerable plants. I have not applied for federal recognition of my tax-exempt status, but I am sure you will trust me to do the right thing. The logo is not a picture of the Cannabis plant.  It is a much more sensitive plant that is totally in tune with its own feelings.

If you care to make a donation, the website is BR549.JOKE.  All donations will be properly handled in the manner you would expect from a reputable SCAM.

The second phase of our campaign will be to illustrate the inhumane way that certain citizens treat and abuse the Cannabis plant, including going so far as to use a pejorative term that is demeaning to the dignity of the plant (WEED).  Long ago we, as a civilization eliminated burning at the stake from punishment, and yet that is still a practice among certain sectors of our society to punish this poor plant with a fiery death.

As a public service we offer this video to illustrate that plants have feelings too.

Please excuse me I have to go now, my Ham, Eggs and Kale is almost ready. It's not Soylent Green, but it will do until the real thing comes along.

I may have spoke too soon, it appears the real thing has already come along. I found this after realizing that many young people will not follow the reference to the old Movie Soylent Green.    What is Soylent?

I forgot to set the start and end tag on the embed iframe. Old CH was a long way from Ben Hur by 1973.

I would have stuck with it if you could have squeezed Charlton Heston in there; even NRA Charlton - "From MY COLD DEAD HANDS!"

Now, Ted would understand that.

I'm just wondering. Did anybody really get through the whole four minutes of that video? Now, that is fluff, i don't care what you say.

I'm occasionally mistaken, but never in doubt.

Yes but Like pork, it takes 8 hours, and it tends to shrivel up.

Knowing what you are writing about slows the process. Can you smoke Mimosa?

Okay I'll admit it. I actually had to research Soylent Green. I don't think I've ever seen the movie all the way through.

Even though the movie was 1973 I should've got a clue when one of the characters actually lived in the building call Chelsea Towers West. Its a small world after all.

You guys crack me up. You coax a smile out of me every day; with Ted playing the Dean Martin role, and Bobby Tony going full bore Jerry Lewis.

Are you telling me it's okay to take food out of the mouth of little cows and baby bees?
