Substitute Teacher Training

    This course prepares individuals to substitute teach in the local county school system. It provides information on learning expectations, time management, monitoring student interaction and classroom management. While this class is geared towards Beaufort County and our service area, it may apply to other counties in the service area. Check with the local Board of Education to confirm the requirements to enrolling. Classes will only be offered during the fall. The next session starts on October 3 and runs from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. It costs $21.75.

Medical Office Specialist

    This online course provides skills training in basic computer operations, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, medical office procedures, professional etiquette, grammar review and transcription editing, electronic health records and medical coding. There will be a few seated classes as the class progresses, but the majority of the coursework will be online. It costs $185 and begins October 4, running from 6:00-9:00 p.m.


Forklift Training

    This class is based on the National Safety Council's (NSC) Forklift Training Program. Students will review forklift operation, inspection and safe use. Students will learn how to inspect the truck, and how to determine lift limitations. Students will discuss the center of gravity and its role in safe load-lifting. They will demonstrate proper use by completing an obstacle course, along with an inspection. A textbook is included in the cost and comes with a certificate and wallet card from NSC. Classes are held at the Beaufort County Skills Center located at 705 Page Rd. in Washington. This class takes place on Saturday, October 8 and costs $77.25

Exploring Healthcare Careers

    For students interested in becoming a Nurse Aide I (NAI) or a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), BCCC is offering a prerequisite class is designed to explore both career pathways. This class will teach students study skills and note-taking skills to help throughout their education. Students will also practice various test-taking tips. In addition, both nurse aide programs require the Career Readiness Certification (CRC), and the workplace observation assessment along with the performance skills assessments, all of which will be offered as part of this class.

    The class will take place from October 17 through November 9 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15-9:15 p.m. and will be taught by Danielle Street. There is a $75 registration fee for the class which can be waived if the student meets one of the following criteria: is currently unemployed, has received notice of a pending layoff, working and eligible for the Federal Income Tax Credit, or working and earning wages at or below the two hundred percent federal poverty level. An additional $66 in assessment fees cannot be waived.
