The Outer Bank Hospital is Partnering With the Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Medical Group for Emergency Medicine Services | Eastern North Carolina Now

Beginning Oct. 1, Vidant Medical Group (VMG) and the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University will begin providing emergency medicine services at The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.

    Nags Head, NC     Beginning Oct. 1, Vidant Medical Group (VMG) and the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University will begin providing emergency medicine services at The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.

said Ronnie Sloan, president of The Outer Banks Hospital. "Our residents and visitors will now have access to decades of emergency medicine experience and high-quality local providers that live here, and are part of our community."

    Besides providing day-to-day emergency care for residents and visitors, the combination of Vidant and ECU/Brody will provide access to newly trained physicians that have experience in innovative programs such as emergency simulation training and rural emergency practice experts. In addition, the team of providers will have access to prompt consultation with peers and access to physicians with clinical experience in specialties including toxicology and pediatric emergency medicine.

    "Vidant and ECU have a long history of working together and providing high-quality emergency services in eastern North Carolina," said Theodore Delbridge, MD, MPH, Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Emergency Medicine at Brody School of Medicine at ECU. "For more than 30 years, the two organizations have collaborated to train new generations of emergency physicians in one of the nation's most established medicine residency training programs."

    Currently, ECU and Vidant Medical Group collectively employ or contract with 98 emergency medicine physicians and 40 advanced practitioners that provide emergency medicine in eastern North Carolina. Vidant Medical Group currently provides emergency professional services to four community hospitals including Vidant Roanoke Chowan, Vidant Chowan, Vidant Bertie and Vidant Duplin hospitals. ECU Emergency Medicine currently provides emergency professional services for the Level I Trauma Center, Adult, Pediatric and Minor Emergency Departments at Vidant Medical Center and at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

"This new relationship now connects The Outer Banks Hospital to the Brody School of Medicine."

    The Outer Banks Hospital is a joint-venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. The Emergency Department has 17 treatment beds assigned to areas designated for patients requiring specific treatment such as cardiac monitoring, orthopedic care, and others. The facility includes an isolation room, a two-bed trauma room and gynecologic exam rooms - all designed for maximum privacy. Last year The Outer Banks Hospital Emergency Department had more than 22,000 visits.
