    Edgecombe County, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory toured the town of Princeville today and then joined local and federal officials as he visited the Disaster Recovery Center in Rocky Mount to provide an update on Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts.

    "As we move into the recovery phase, I want the people of Princeville and Edgecombe County to know that we will be working with you every step of the way," said Governor McCrory. "Today, my top priority is to secure disaster food assistance to help residents of Edgecombe County get back on their feet again."

    In Princeville, Governor McCrory joined Mayor Bobbie Jones for an update on the recovery efforts and to tour damage from the flooding, including Princeville Elementary School and the town's fire station. The governor then traveled to Rocky Mount to meet with federal and local officials.

    Edgecombe County is one of 20 counties eligible for disaster unemployment assistance for those who lost their jobs as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Additionally, Governor McCrory has directed the DMV to temporarily waive certain fees for customers in 37 counties, including Edgecombe County, that were impacted by the storm.

    Twenty-eight counties have been approved for both public and individual federal assistance, including Edgecombe County. Governor McCrory said that more than $41 million in federal assistance has already been approved for individuals impacted by Hurricane Matthew in North Carolina. Additionally, more than $2.2 million has been approved for individuals in Edgecombe County.

    Edgecombe is one of nine counties approved for federal Transitional Sheltering Assistance to help move people out of shelters into temporary housing. Two Disaster Recovery Centers have now opened in Edgecombe County to help individuals apply for federal assistance.

    Governor McCrory mentioned that he will be meeting with the North Carolina Congressional Delegation this afternoon to discuss long-term recovery efforts.
