The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a Disaster Food and Nutrition Services (DFNS) Program for Beaufort County, North Carolina

    The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a Disaster Food and Nutrition Services (DFNS) Program for Beaufort County, North Carolina. Along with Beaufort County the following counties at this time have been approved: Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Dare, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, Tyrrell, and Wayne.

    Individuals and families may be eligible for Disaster FNS benefits if they lived in areas that were directly impacted by Hurricane Matthew and meet the eligibility criteria. Households not affected by the hurricane are not eligible for Disaster FNS benefits.

    The Beaufort County Department of Social Services will be taking Disaster Food and Nutrition Services applications from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm at the following locations on the following dates:

    Please note that you will not be able to receive Disaster Food and Nutrition Services if you are a current recipient in the Food and Nutrition program.

    Only households that resided in the disaster area at the time of disaster are eligible to apply.

    Verification of identity is mandatory for the head of household and authorized representative. This can be in the form of a picture I.D. or any other form of identification. This proof may include, but is not limited to, Social Security card, mail, or collateral statement. Identity is the only eligibility factor that must be verified.

    Additional eligibility requirements apply.

    You must tell the truth when you apply for Disaster Food and Nutrition Services or request replacement benefits. All applications are subject to an audit. If you get benefits which you are not entitled to, you will be required to pay them back. If you break the Food and Nutrition Services rules you may be disqualified from the program, fined up to $250,000 and/or put in jail for up to 20 years.
