Old Actors and Presidents – After the final curtain call | Eastern NC Now

What do you do after you have left the stage after the final curtain call of your last Movie or Play? You have poured your heart into the performance. You have endured the exposure to the critics and the cheerleaders. You have relinquished your part to the next headliner.

I have ordered this book; not because I was an avid or rabid supporter of G.W. Bush but because I am an avid and rabid supporter of the veterans who served in the Armed Services and were wounded doing what their country told them to do. Here is an article for you consideration. If your immediate reaction is to reject this because it's GW, I suggest you check you compassion meter. It may be a bit low.

Old Actors and Presidents – After the final curtain call

What do you do after you have left the stage after the final curtain call of your last Movie or Play? You have poured your heart into the performance. You have endured the exposure to the critics and the cheerleaders. You have relinquished your part to the next headliner.

There is nothing left for you to do but to exit gracefully stage left or right. In some towns, you could dress up and attend an awards show where you pat each other on the back for all the things you hate. In some other towns, you just sit on the porch and watch the parade go by. Most actors yearn for that spotlight long after the footlights have faded into darkness. Occasionally you may find a retired actor who tries to mentor the younger actors who played roles in his play. They were not the headliner on the banner but the play would not have occurred without their willing participation. Instead of awarding yourself and the others who were actors who received Top Billing in your play, maybe you could pay homage to the uncredited actors in the movie or play. Actors and Ex-Presidents will be judged by their performance on stage, but their character and humanity will be judged by what they do after they have left the stage. Each of us will judge our past presidents through our own Dark Looking Glass. Here is just one example of an 's afterlife.
