Press Release:

NCGOP Chairman Robin Hayes today praised efforts by North Carolina Republicans to lower and simplify state taxes while providing a boost to the economy. Chairman Hayes said citizens can expect more of the successful tax reductions to continue this year.

"All income brackets are seeing lower taxes, a flatter fairer tax code, all while the state is seeing surplus revenues, some of which will be used for further tax cuts and teacher/state worker compensation increases," said NCGOP Chairman Robin Hayes. "State House and Senate leaders along with Lt. Gov. Dan Forest have already begun working on plans to further reduce taxes on North Carolina citizens, and I know their efforts will succeed."

Hayes added, "As noted by a new John Locke Foundation report, taxpayers in every income category will save tens of millions of dollars because of state tax reforms enacted in North Carolina in 2013. The report notes that combining 2013 reforms with a 2011 sales-tax rate reduction pushed by the Republican-led General Assembly, lower- and middle-income households will enjoy annual savings of $682 million." (Dr. Roy Cordato, "Tax Cuts for All: Tax Reform Means Savings to All NC Income Groups," John Locke Foundation)

The new study by the John Locke Foundation analyzed impacts from all of the tax changes sponsored by Republicans, and how they would affect all income groups.

Republicans adopted a tax reform law in 2013 which reflected their 2011 decision to reject a high state sales tax put in place by Democrats. The report shows that taxpayers benefit from both of these decisions from the Republican-led General Assembly.
