I understand that it is a 3-4 hour trip to Spencer N.C. from Washington N.C. but it may be worth the trip to see the only viewing of this locomotive before it is relocated to Atlanta for later display. I have written about this locomotive before and now it returns to Atlanta after a major restoration. The Great Locomotive Chase.

After a 16 month restoration project, the Locomotive Texas, which is one -half of the Great locomotive chase between the General and The Texas during the Civil War is returning to Georgia. It will be on display at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer N.C. from April 28-30. This will be the only showing of the locomotive until it is put on display at the Atlanta History Center in the fall. Texas Restoration event
Thanks to the North Carolina craftsmen on the restoration of this iconic locomotive.

It was discreetly referred to as Operation Overlord - the final push into Fortress Europe through the inflexible sea wall, built by the Nazi overlords, just a spare few miles from the free shores of Great Britain, where the entire United States Expeditionary Force was stationed.
