Press Release:

Given today's media reports on the $6 million in federal funds appropriated to North Carolina to assist with Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts, I thought it would be helpful to also provide figures on the federal dollars that have already been allocated to North Carolina to assist Hurricane Matthew victims.

Late last year, Senator Tillis worked with the North Carolina delegation to secure more than $334 million for the recovery effort, which will be used to help rebuild homes, roads, and infrastructure.

Additionally, the federal government has provided the state of North Carolina with more than $750 million in assistance, funding that did not require Congressional authorization.

Please see the statement from Senator Tillis' office below, as well as breakdown of the federal assistance that North Carolina has received, which does not include the estimated $6 million authorized in the recent omnibus appropriations bill passed by Congress.

  • "Last year, Senator Tillis worked closely with the North Carolina delegation to secure more than $330 million in federal funds to assist North Carolina in the Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts, funds that will be used to help rebuild homes, roads, and infrastructure. This year, Senator Tillis has worked in coordination with Governor Cooper and the North Carolina delegation to secure more federal funding, and he will continue to work with the delegation and federal agencies to assist with long-term recovery efforts."

This is a breakdown of the estimated funds from the December CR, passed by Congress:

  • CDBG: $193,630,000
  • Highways: $23,680,000
  • Agriculture: Emergency Watershed Protection $6,180,000
  • Emergency Conservation Program: $27,513,000
  • Army Corps: $83,119,000
  • Total: $334,122,000

As of April 4, 2017 these are the federal funds North Carolina has received that did not require congressional authorization:

  • FEMA Public Assistance: $304,756,670
  • FEMA Individual Assistance: $89,484,292
  • Hazard Mitigation Grant Program: $75,487,098
  • Small Business Administration Loans: $96,569,600
  • NFIP Insurance Payments: $185,640,765
  • Total: $751,938,425
