   Congratulations to Bath Elementary School's Science Olympiad Team! They won five first place medals and two third place medals at Student Challenge at Washington High School on Saturday, December 10.

   Southside High School students, faculty, and staff participated in the Pasta for Pennies Leukemia and Lymphoma Community Service Project December 5-9. The fundraiser was sponsored by the Student Government Association, which is advised by Chynna Bonner.

   Generous giving resulted in $962.07 raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a substantial increase from the $570.19 raised in 2010. Ashley Grant’s first period class gave $326.32 with a per student donation of $12.09 and, as the first place winners, will be treated to a pasta dinner by Olive Garden. Meredith Southworth’s first period class placed second, donating $103.93 with a per student donation of $8.66, while Kathy Smith’s first period class finished in third place with $97.42 with a per student donation of $5.73.

   Several students at Northeast Elementary who were displaced after Hurricane Irene received an early Christmas gift from the teachers of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society Alpha Omega Chapter of Beaufort and Hyde Counties.

   Eleven students were given a bag of books specific to their grade level. “Northeast would like to give a special thanks to the Alpha Omega Chapter for the kindness shown to our students. We hope the families of these students will enjoy special time reading together over the holidays. One of the best gifts we can give our children is reading”, said Northeast Guidance Counselor Julie Harris.

program at Southside High School recently received a $2500 grant from AgCarolina Financial.

   The money will be used to buy new equipment and tools for the ag shop.
