    Mr. Robert Turner Dorn, age 79, a resident of Washington, NC, died Tuesday August 15, 2017 at his home.

    A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday August 19, 2017 at First Christian Church of Washington and will be officiated by Rev. Carol Steffa.

    Mr. Dorn was born in Greenwood, South Carolina on August 31, 1937 to the late Terrell H. Dorn and Mary Elizabeth Steer. He was a 1955 graduate of Greenwood High School. After joining the Navy, he attended Long Beach State College to study Engineering. Mr. Dorn was a Vietnam veteran with multiple Purple Hearts. During his military career, he served on the USS McCain and the USS Brush, where he served as a radar man. He was a UDT Frogman. Following his military service, Mr. Dorn went on to work for many textile companies eventually coming to Beaufort County to work as an Industrial Engineer for National Spinning. On October 20, 1989, he married Margaret Priscilla Hildebrandt who survives. He was a very active member at First Christian Church and served as a deacon. He enjoyed sailing and racing sailboats in the Pamlico Sailing Club. Mr. Dorn thoroughly enjoyed teaching a swimming class at Vidant Lifestyles.

    In addition to his wife, Margaret H. Dorn, he is survived by two daughters, Lillian D. Hollars and husband Jerry of Mebane, Kelly Dorn Boyd and fiancé Lloyd Brown of Greenville, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother, James D. Dorn and wife Judith of Avon, a sister, Barbara Ann Hoggard and husband Thomas of Portsmouth, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

    He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard T. Dorn and a sister, Emma Jean Robinson.

    The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday at the home.
