President Trump States Policy, Comments, News, and Presidential Edicts: Bills Signed - September 29, 2017

Readout of President Donald J. Trump's Call with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany


    President Donald J. Trump spoke today with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany to congratulate her on her election victory and wish her well in the formation of her fourth government. President Trump underscored the deep ties that bind our countries, our joint efforts to promote peace and prosperity, and the United States' commitment to our longstanding, strong alliance with the German government and the German people.

    The leaders discussed how to counter Iran's malign activities in the Middle East, and addressed the nuclear deal and Iran's missile program, and its non-compliance with relevant United Nations resolutions. They also affirmed the importance of achieving the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

President Donald J. Trump signs H.R. 3823 into Law


    On Friday, September 29, 2017, the President signed into law:

    H.R. 3823, the " Disaster Tax Relief and Airport and Airway Extension Act of 2017," which extends authorization for Federal Aviation Administration programs and related revenue authorities through March 31, 2018; provides emergency tax relief for individuals and employers living in areas affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria; and extends certain expiring health provisions.

President Donald J. Trump Signs H.R. 3819 and S. 1866 into Law


    On Friday, September 29, 2017, the President signed into law:

    H.R. 3819, the "Department of Veterans Affairs Expiring Authorities Act of 2017," which extends certain expiring authorities affecting veterans and their families, including: health care; benefits; homelessness; miscellaneous authorities; and makes a number of technical corrections; and

    S. 1866, the "Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria Education Relief Act of 2017," which provides the Department of Education with administrative authority to assist institutions of higher education affected by, or enrolling students affected by, recent hurricanes and tropical storms under two campus-based financial aid programs, and to require a grant program to provide equitable services to children and teachers in private schools.
