How Much Is A Billion Dollars? | Eastern North Carolina Now

I published this in my Foolishness...Or Is It Blog Posting in December 2008. If you normally don't spend much time reading old blogs, make an exception in this case. It is still as sensible as it was in December 2008.
------------------------
Congress throws around Billions of Dollars as if Billions were a Bunch of "Not Much".
A Billion Is A Lot of Money ... Or It Used To Be.

If you came home one day and gave your spouse, partner, significant other or your live-in friend a Million Dollars and told her/him you wanted her/him to go out and spend $1,000 a day shopping and not to return to your house until all the Million Dollars had been spent, you would not see her/him for 2.739726 years.

That's the last time in this Blog Posting that I am going to list out all these alternatives. From now on you are going to just have to satisfy your longing to be all-inclusive, understanding and/or tolerant with my having typed "spouse" and a female spouse at that. Sorry, it is the old fashioned me in me.

Not seeing your spouse for 2.739726 years is a long time. On the other hand, if you gave your spouse a Billion Dollars, you would not see her for 2,739.726 years.

While our new President is straightening out everything, I think he ought to get a bill passed that prohibits members of congress from saying a "Billion Dollars".

Forthwith they ought to be required to say "One Thousand Million Dollars" instead of "One Billion Dollars". It might make them think twice when they have to utter the words, "Seven Thousand Million Dollars" instead of a mere "Seven Billion Dollars".

On second thought, it probably would not faze them in the least. They would get used to it in about twenty minutes. I'm sorry I wrote this Foolishness. I'm sorry I you took the time to read this Silliness.

Please go back to the beginning and not read what you just read.

    Would I kid u?
