Working Smart

    Perfect for employers who need to develop a professional staff, Working Smart is a five-module curriculum: self-awareness, self-management, work ethics, communication skills and problem-solving skills. This class prepares prospective job seekers for employment and equips individuals currently in the workforce seeking new opportunities. Individuals who complete the training with receive a program certification. A fee waiver is available for qualifying individuals. The college is offering two sessions. One will start on June 4 and runs on Mondays and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. A second session will start on July 9 at the same times.

A Taste of Summer Wine

    "Summer afternoon-summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language." Henry James was likely having a glass of wine when he said that. Mary Mehlich, proprietor of Wine and Words in Downtown Washington, wants you to know about the variety of delicious and refreshing wines to enhance summer meals and outings. She will lead the class on an exploration of wines fit for summer, and teach how to pair them summer suppers. Taste wines that make for beautiful summer afternoons. This class will take place Tuesday, June 12 at Wine and Words.

Let's Do Lunch: Pimento Cheese

    Store bought pimento cheese. Really? Homemade pimento cheese is always so delicious and easy to make. Students will question why they ever settled. There are many different techniques and recipes used to make this old Southern staple. The class will make several variations of pimento cheese, enough to carry home samples for their families to enjoy. Students will make two tasty appetizers using pimento cheese, including cheese and jam appetizer, pimento cheese sandwiches using four different recipes and quick tomato soup. This $30 class will take place on June 14 at 10:00 a.m.

Evening Substitute Teacher Training

    Due to frequent requests for evening courses, the college is offering an evening session to prepare individuals to substitute teach in the local county school system. This course provides information on learning expectations, time management, monitoring student interaction and classroom management. All classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., with class starting on July 10.

Real Estate Pre-license

    This course is required to become a provisional broker, and it is designed to prepare students to pass the real estate license examination administered by the NC Real Estate Commission. Topics include basic real estate principles and practices, law and contracts, financing, closing valuation, fair housing and real estate laws. Diana Lambeth will lead this $180 course. The class runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays all day starting August 21.
