Washington, NC - Republican Greg Dority filed for the NC State Auditor race today. Dority, a retired security consultant from Washington, NC currently serves as Beaufort County GOP Chairman and is a former vice-chairman of the Republican First Congressional District.

"After much consideration and prayer, I have filed today for the position of NC Auditor. It is critical for the NCGOP to field the strongest candidate slate possible to support Pat McCrory in his ascension to the Governor's mansion and my presence on the ticket will ensure an eastern conservative is there to help drive the vote."

"Having received encouragement from Chairman Hayes and other party leaders this month I look forward to serving the citizens of North Carolina as their Auditor. I see the job as primarily management driven and a question of leadership versus the holding of obtuse technocrat skills and accounting degrees. It takes courage to investigate and my years in the field overseas have given me that requisite skill set to uncover the facts for the citizens of North Carolina. In this period of economic decline it is vital for our citizens to have someone ensuring their resources are being protected and government is operated in the utmost efficient way. Government must operate in the same manner as our businesses and households. Anything less is unacceptable." Dority said.

Dority is a 1981 graduate of North Carolina State University where he majored in Political Science. He spent most of the 1980's directing security at the ABC News Washington, DC bureau before departing just prior to the Gulf War in 1991. During the 1990's he worked in various capacities within the security field and traveled extensively in the Balkans and Caucuses. He did his graduate work at The George Washington University.

Following the events of September 11, 2001 Greg began a professional transition to International Development. His work experience focused on economic restructuring of post-war regions, to include a stint with the Christian humanitarian organization World Vision. In 2003 he served as a member of the United Nations Security Advisory Board in Tirana, Albania.

Greg is a widower with a fourteen year old daughter. His current message of fiscal conservatism is directed toward shaping the future that she and her contemporaries will be challenged with. He makes his home in Washington, North Carolina where he is active in Republican politics and local civic organizations. In 2012 he begins his sixth season as President of the Washington Girls Softball League.
