Press Release:

A new tax package made its way through the Senate this week that will put more of your hard-earned money where it belongs- in your pockets.

The Tax Reduction Act of 2019 is the latest in a string of significant tax reforms enacted by legislative Republicans in North Carolina since 2011 that have resulted in 99 percent of North Carolina taxpayers either paying less or no state personal income taxes.

When Democrats controlled the legislature before 2011, they imposed the highest taxes in the Southeast - and some of the highest in the country - on working North Carolina families. They used the revenues extracted from you on failed spending programs that threw our state into crisis during the recession.

Since Republicans took control of the General Assembly, we've enacted a series of historic, economy-boosting tax cuts that have led to a boom decade for our state. We have a strong business climate, and more people are working in North Carolina today than ever before in the history of our state.

The Tax Reduction Act of 2019 will continue these efforts by increasing the standard deduction for those married filing jointly from $20,000 to $20,750, allowing North Carolinians to keep more of their hard-earned money. This would mark a $14,750 increase in the standard deduction since we took over the General Assembly.

We have worked hard to eliminate and reduce taxes of all kinds in order to put more of the incomes of families into their pockets instead of giving it to government, while at the same time encouraging further business investment in North Carolina to create more jobs for our citizens

We will continue enacting conservative economic policies to keep your taxes low and keep our private sector healthy while resisting Democratic calls to return to the failed tax-and-spend policies that resulted in financial ruin for our state just a decade ago.
