   These latest announcements from the Southside High School, via the Beaufort County School System, reminds us that schools are a focal point of activity.

Students recently recognized for academic achievement, effort, and, or attitude


    Each teacher in the English/foreign language department at Southside High School recently recognized students for academic achievement, effort, and, or attitude.

    Students recognized were Tiara Bryant (Spanish II-Susan Moore), Cheyenne Hudson (English II Honors-Meredith Southworth), Nicolshia Crawford (English IV Honors-Connie Lewis), Tyler Griffin (English I-Freda Potter), Joshua Wilson (English I-Kathy Macey), and Chelsea Moore (English III Honors-Grace Morgan).

    Pictures of these students were displayed on the department's "Reach for the Stars" bulletin board.

RYLA


    RYLA is designed to help high school students develop their leadership skills. Applicants must have leadership experience or potential, the ability to work in a group, an awareness of current events, strong communication skills, a good performance in school or on the job, and an enthusiasm for sharing new-found skills with others. The Washington Noon Rotary Club paid expenses for the Southside students to attend.

held its prom, "Under the Stars," on March 31 from 8:00-11:30 at Yankee Hall Plantation. 149 students and their dates attended. Music was provided by deejay Butch Oliver. As a prom remembrance, all juniors and seniors were given a koozie with the prom theme printed on it.

    Davone King and Tijanna Moore were crowned prom king and queen. Faculty members Tina Petty, Lisa Johnson, and Cristina Cilluffo planned and coordinated the prom.

WASHINGTON, NC— Beaufort County Community College has eight-week, online "Late-Start" courses starting March 6.
A new scholarship will help more North Carolina families attend university and offer them debt-free community college.
