Where Is Cunningham on Iran? | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Raleigh, NC     Despite making his military service a cornerstone of his campaign and being quick to criticize President Trump's decisions as commander in chief in the past, Cal Cunningham has said nothing for two days on Iran's recent retaliatory strike against the U.S., which many are calling a de-escalation of the situation and a victory for the President. Cunningham's silence comes as the liberal dark money group VoteVets is spending $400,000 on TV ads trying to rescue him in the Democratic primary, where he trails Erica Smith. The night of Iran's attack VoteVets put out a statement saying:

  • "This is a significant escalation by the Iranians, and proof that claims that the killing of Qasem Soleimani was a de-escalating move were wrong. Unfortunately (and we pray we are wrong) this may not be the 'main event' of their response.Donald Trump unleashed the spiral downward towards a deadly, reckless war with Iran as soon as he pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal, and sent it into warp drive when he gave the order to kill a wildly popular Iranian leader."

North Carolinians deserve to know if Cunningham, who has praised VoteVets in the past, agrees that the U.S. should be in Obama's Iran Nuclear Deal and that President Trump's decision to take out Qasem Soleimani was "wrong."
