CMS Students Win Big in System Tshirt Contest

Two Chocowinity Middle School Students won the top prizes in this year's School Breakfast T-Shirt Contest sponsored by Beaufort County Schools Child Nutrition Department. Cristal Gachuz, an eighth grader at CMS, won first place, and her artwork is featured on tshirts that are now worn by nutritional staff across the school system. Gachuz won a Fire Kindle for her winning entry. Second place in the contest, open to all Beaufort County Schools students, went to CMS fifth grader Oswaldo Rangel, who won an Ipod Shuffle. The BCS Child Nutrition Department held the contest to help students learn the benefits of eating a healthy balanced breakfast at school and how doing so prepares for a day of learning and activity.

CMS Students Have Poetry Published

Two seventh grade students at Chocowinity Middle School received notification in May that their poems submitted to America's Number One Student Poetry Contest, sponsored by Young Writers of America, have been selected to be published in the Award-Winning Young Writers of America - 2012 student anthology. Leah Street's poem titled "The World We Live In" and Jamya Moore's poem "My Wish for the World" were both chosen for publication. This is an annual contest that is educator-run with less than twenty percent of the entries chosen for publication. These students are now eligible to win prizes as Division Winners, Honorable Mention Winners and the Grand Prize Winner that will be announced at a later date.
