Recent School News from the Bath Area on the North Side of the Pamlico River | Eastern North Carolina Now

   These latest announcements from the Bath area on the north side of the Pamlico River, via the Beaufort County School System, reminds us that schools are a focal point of activity.

   Bath Elementary School is proud to announce the winners of the Character Education Trait program for May, 2012. The Character Education Program teaches and promotes important character traits to develop a total school atmosphere that reflects these traits.
The following students were chosen because they displayed the May trait of Self-Discipline: Front Row: Gavin Sawyer, Christine Booth, Hannah VanStaalduinen, Grayson Warren. Back Row: Ashlee Rasmussen, Lexie Gibbs, Tiffany Oliver, Mackenzie Rouse, Viridianna Sanchez Martinez.

   Recently, Historic Bath celebrated the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 1751 Palmer-Marsh House and 1830 Bonner House.Overlooking and enjoying a gentle breeze from Bath and Back Creeks, relatives of those involved in the acquisition and restoration of the homes were on hand to accept kind words and applause for their family members’ hard work and foresight into the preservation of Bath’s history.

   During the program a portrait of Edmund Harding, organizer of the Bath preservation movement in the late 1950s, was unveiled by artist Nancy Scoble and Harding’s widow Carolyn with his grandchildren Katherine Hall and Edmund Davenport at her side. Northside High School ROTC cadets and FBLA members were on hand to hand out programs and help guests to their seat. They were responsible for setting up the tables and chairs following the program for the fish fry provided by the Bath Ruritan Club. They helped refill tea glasses, dispose of trash and disassemble the tables and chairs after the lunch. Their participation, pleasantness and eagerness to be a part of the event were greatly appreciated.
