Alva Chambers Lilley | Eastern NC Now

    Alva Chambers Lilley was received into the grace of her heavenly home on June 2, 2020. She was 84.

    Alva was born April 4, 1936 to Claude and Effie Chambers of Pinetown, NC. She was the eldest of seven children on a small family farm in Beaufort County. She attended Pinetown Elementary School and Bath High School. She later met and married James Fredrick Lilley of Washington, NC. She spent all of her adult life in Plymouth, NC until 2019 when she moved to Three Rivers Nursing & Rehabilitation Home. She was a gentle nursing assistant for the Washington County Health Department for 25 years and was an outstanding southern cook and gardener. She will long be remembered as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a sharp sense of wit and a strong loving spirit. She also had a deep personal relationship with a Creator she knew very well.

    She is survived by one son, James Fredrick Lilley, Jr. and wife Linda of St. Louis, Missouri, two daughters Ginger Lilley Horton and husband the late Emmitt Horton of Plymouth, NC and Janet Lilley Gilliam and husband Robert of Raleigh, NC. She also lived to see seven grandchildren, Amanda Leslie, Aaron Lilley, and Teha Lilley of St. Louis, Joey Jones and Caitlyn Horton of Plymouth and Dr. Meredith Gilliam of Durham, NC and Liz Gilliam of Tuscon, AZ. She was also proud of two great grandchildren, Jeremiah Horton of Plymouth and Sarah Wurzelmann of Durham, NC. A celebration of Alva's life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Washington Funeral & Cremation with Pastor David Linton officiating.
