Mrs. Ethel Naomi Cohoon Fulcher, age 90, of Washington Park, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, December 4, 2020 at the Chocowinity home of her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Amie Fulcher.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jim Reed of Asbury United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors at the gravesite immediately following the service, and at other times at the home of Tim and Amie Fulcher.

Mrs. Fulcher was born on August 18, 1930, daughter of the late Milton Vernon Cohoon and Florence Cuthrell Cohoon, and was raised in the small farming community of Gum Neck, NC. When not helping on the family farms, she was active in church and school - and those early influences would guide her for the rest of her life. She graduated from East Carolina College in 1952 and, after brief teaching assignments in Gaston, NC and Creswell, NC, she was a beloved primary school teacher in Chocowinity, NC for the bulk of her 31-year career. Mrs. Fulcher was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington, where she served on numerous committees of the Administrative Board, as well as singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and VBS, and helping lead the United Methodist Women and the Fannie Crosby Circle.

In 1953, Mrs. Fulcher married the late Charles R. "Sam" Fulcher. Together, they enjoyed traveling and many activities associated with the Loyal Order of Moose. Mrs. Fulcher held various offices in the local chapter of the "Women of the Moose", including Senior Regent. She loved to cook, read, and garden, and was a member of the Washington Park Garden Club. In later years, she loved to get together with different groups of friends for monthly lunches and social events.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Fulcher is preceded in death by her brother, Milton V. Cohoon Jr.

Mrs. Fulcher is survived by two sons: Charles M. Fulcher (Leanne) of Washington, and Woodrow T. Fulcher (Amie) of Chocowinity, and two daughters: Donna F. Alar of Atlanta, GA and Lisa F. Walker (Robby) of Hot Springs, AR. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Joshua C. Fulcher (Sandy) of Greenville, NC, Graham T. Fulcher of Greenville, NC, Lindsay W. Ruvalcaba (Frankie) of Russellville, AR, Emily W. Smith (Morgan) of Fayetteville, AR, John P. Alar (Katie) of Charlotte, NC, and Mark C. Alar (Maisen) of Fort Worth, TX, and three great-grandsons: Emerson M. Smith and Liam R. Smith of Fayetteville, AR and Luke C. Fulcher of Greenville, NC. She is also survived by a sister, Alma Dean C. Cooper of Columbia, NC, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to extend profound thanks to Victoria Hamilton, RN and Sheila Lassiter, CNA of Community Home Care and Hospice for the outstanding care they provided and to the following special loved ones who were a great comfort to their mother: Caddie Baker, Marie Grizzard, Meredith Grizzard, Elizabeth Sweatland, and Lorie Thurmon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 88 North Asbury Church Rd, Washington, NC 27889 or Community Home Care & Hospice, 222 Stewart Parkway, Suite 100, Washington, NC 27889.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Fulcher family.
