Bessie Mae Lane Temple died August 12, 2012 at Cypress Glenn Retirement Community in Greenville, N.C., where she was blessed to have loving and superb care by her caregivers and good friends. All at Cypress Glenn knew her as Lane.

   Bessie Mae Lane Temple died August 12, 2012 at Cypress Glenn Retirement Community in Greenville, N.C., where she was blessed to have loving and superb care by her caregivers and good friends. All at Cypress Glenn knew her as Lane.

   A memorial service will be held at 2 PM today, August 19, 2012 at Cypress Glenn Retirement Community Chapel in Greenville, N.C. officiated by the Revs. Karen Crutchfield and Allen Bingham.

   Bessie Mae was born on September 25, 1919, to the late Eugene and Bessie Bowden Lane. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School. After graduating from Tayloe Hospital Nursing School, she became a supervising operating room nurse at Parrott Hospital in Kinston, N.C., where she made her home until retiring to Cypress Glenn. She devoted many years caring for and helping individuals in need. She was a faithful volunteer with her close friend, Ann Hobbs for the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Flynn Home for Alcoholics. Bessie Mae was a faithful member of Queens Street Methodist Church.

   She is survived by a granddaughter, Dr. Libby Edwards and her husband, Clayton, of Charlotte, N.C., who knew Bessie Mae as “Mother Lane,” brothers-in-law, J. R. Everett of Goldsboro, N.C., Vernon Lilly of Greenville, N.C., a sister-in-law, Ernestine Lane of Washington, N.C., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Temple, Sr., her stepdaughters, Octavia Temple Edwards, and Mary Elizabeth Temple Murrill and a stepson, Joseph Temple III; brothers Coly Lane, Delmar Lane, Vernon Lane, Troy Lane, Donald Lane; sisters Etta Lane Lilley and Jean Lane Everett, a niece, Ann Lane Warren; nephews, Cecil Lane, Ray Lane and Abby Lane.

   Memorial contributions may be made to Cypress Glenn Retirement Community, 100 Hickory St., Greenville, N.C. 27858.
