News Release:

Yesterday, North Carolina Republicans experienced a number of stunning victories across the state and key suburban areas are now safely in Republican hands. In Mecklenburg County, Republicans won 5 out of the 6 Mayoral races and flipped Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina and Burlington.

"During yesterday's elections, North Carolina voters sent a clear message that every race is up for grabs ahead of the midterms. Voters know that the Republican party is the only one equipped to get our economy back on track, decrease crime and give parents authority in their children's education. The municipal and mayoral Republican victories across the state are a rejection of the Democrats' failed agenda and a sign that the Red Wave is making its way to North Carolina and will continue into 2022."- RNC Spokeswoman Alex Nolley

    Background:

  • Working hand in glove with multiple mayoral and municipal campaigns, the Republican National Committee made nearly 25,000 targeted voter contacts ahead of yesterday's election.
  • While Republicans have held a registration advantage over the past decade, Democrats took over in 2020 with more registered Democrats than Republicans. However, over the past year, Republicans in North Carolina have seen momentum in voter registration, while Democrats are losing ground.
  • Thre is increasing evidence that President Joe Biden is widely unpopular in North Carolina. In October, 56 percent of North Carolinians disapproved of Biden's job performance and 63 percent believe the economy is getting worse under his leadership. North Carolina voters want candidates who will be a check and balance on the Biden administration.
