Velma Lee Bridgeman Waters | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Velma Lee Bridgeman Waters, age 86, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday November 16, 2021 at her home with family by her side.

    A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday November 19, 2021 at First Church of Christ officiated by Ray West.

    Mrs. Waters was born in Beaufort County on October 10, 1935, daughter of the late James Carlton "Carl" Bridgeman, Sr. and the late Irene Elizabeth Alligood Bridgeman. She was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School. On June 30, 1957 she married Billy Lene Waters, Sr. who preceded her in death on October 23, 2009. Her working career consisted of being an administrative assistant with Nationwide Insurance in Belhaven and Greenville. Later she worked with the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources until her retirement in 2012. Her retirement enabled her to enjoy and keep her grandchildren. She dearly loved her family and her church family at First Church of Christ in Washington.

    Survivors include a son: Billy Lene Waters, Jr. (Sue) of Bath; daughters: Pam W. Allen (Gregory) of Chocowinity and Susan E. Waters of Washington; grandchildren: Joshua Brooks Waters (Whitney) of Graham, Mallory W. Ferrell (Andrew) of Bath, Daniel Allen (Ashton) Raleigh, Sarah Herring (Fleming) of Raleigh, Gage Braddy of Washington and Lucas Lene Braddy of Washington; great grandchildren: Carr Herring, Edie Herring, Campbell Herring; and brothers: James C. Bridgeman, Jr. of Lancaster, PA and Steve Bridgeman (Anna) of Winterville; sisters-in-law: Elaine Bridgeman of New Bern and Joy Hubbard (Pete) of Morehead City and several nieces and nephews.

    The family would like to thank Mrs. Waters' caregivers, Toni Godley, Donna Alligood, Lisa Hardee, Donna Sullivan, Lisa Latham, Victoria Bell, and Velva Thompson, for their care, love, and concern.
