Installation for Dr. Barbara Tansey set for Friday, Oct. 5 | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release / Media Advisory:

Beaufort County Community College will hold the installation ceremony for its fifth President, Dr. Barbara Tansey, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, in the auditorium of Building 8 on the BCCC campus.

The installation ceremony will be followed by a reception for Dr. and Mr. Tansey, hosted by the BCCC Board of Trustees, in the Multi-Purpose Room of Building 10.

Dr. Tansey is the first woman to serve as BCCC president, formerly Beaufort County Technical Institute.

A veteran educator, Dr. Tansey began her career as a teacher in rural Missouri and later became director of a program serving single-parent, displaced homemakers while she finished her doctorate.

Dr. Tansey earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. She earned her doctorate from the School of Practical Arts and Vocational Education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.

Dr. Tansey comes to BCCC from Fayetteville Technical Community College, where she served as vice president of academic and student services for four years. Prior to her tenure at FTCC, she served more than three years as vice president of student learning at South Piedmont Community College in Polkton.

Her husband, Tom, is the chief executive officer of Tansey and Associates, a company that conducts training and certification programs for managers and supervisors in the construction industry.

Today, with an annual budget of some $22.7 million, BCCC serves a four-county area that includes Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties - geographically one of the largest service areas of any community college in the state.

The college employs some 450 full- and part-time faculty and staff members and serves 1,947 curriculum students and about 6,000 students through its Division of Continuing Education.
