Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital to expand cancer services | Eastern North Carolina Now

For Immediate release:

GREENVILLE, NC     Beginning Oct. 1, Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital will expand its cancer services to include radiation therapy. This service will be located at what was the Ahoskie Cancer Center. That facility will now be called the Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Radiation Oncology Center.

Dr. Leslie St. Royal, a board-certified radiation oncologist, will remain at the center, along with the rest of the team - including a medical physicist, a medical dosimetrist and radiation therapists.

"I am excited to join the Vidant Health team to continue providing excellent care to our patients," St. Royal said.

Patients at the center will continue to see the same treatment team. The only difference they experience is the billing entity. Patients will begin receiving bills from Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and Vidant Medical Group, of which St. Royal will be a part.

Treatment options at the facility include intensity-modulated radiation therapy, a type of radiation therapy in which beams of radiation are shaped to approximate the contour of the tumor from many angles.

"Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is excited to expand our cancer services to include radiation oncology. Radiation therapy is a key component of cancer care," said Sue Lassiter, president, Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. "We are glad that patients and families will have access to these services close to home."

The center was previously managed by Alliance Oncology, a national provider of radiation therapy services and a division of Alliance HealthCare Services.

The Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Radiation Oncology Center is located at 301 South Academy St., Ahoskie, NC. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call 252-209-8483.
