Beaufort County's Finance Director Speaks to the Board Amid the Yearly Audit Report - December 6, 2021 | Eastern North Carolina Now

January 12, 2022 - Publisher's note: Due to a publishing SNAFU, I have been remiss in my duties, here at BCN, regarding the proper categorization of county government publications; in particular, the Enhanced County Government Videos, begun August 1, 2019.

Therefore, to thoroughly correct this miscue, I will make the proper categorical correction, and bring these archives forward beginning on January 12, 2022; mixing these historical patterns of fact in with the current news of our day. Some posts brought forward will not be video broadcasts, but most informative posts as to who and what you Beaufort County Commissioners are, and how they govern.

Beaufort County Commissioners hear the financial state of the county treasury, and its condition is good, yet ... maybe too good.

Government exists, primarily, and at all levels of governing, to: 1) protect its citizens from enemies within, and from without; 2) enforce a fair and constructive system of justice; 3) create a society where its citizens may be productive and reach their true potential; 4) to never disturb the natural forces of capitalism; however, instill through wise policy, to what extent is practicable and without disturbing the real protected individual freedoms of our good citizenry, the "Level Playing Field" where a free people can thrive.

This will not happen when government becomes too big, too intrusive; where political leaders never stop practicing politics at the expense of practicing "Limited Government". In Beaufort County, government has grown too large, too inefficient, too inequitable, and sometimes possibly corrupt.

Change could begin by limiting our local government's scope and intrusive reach, as it divides OUR wealth to its preferred beneficiaries, and a good beginning to that corrective end would be the divesting of its treasury back to its taxpaying citizens; forcing its administration of its assets to be made more practical and fair in that ongoing exercise.

This segmented video allows for a more transparent understanding of the beginning of that good process: Below.

While the state of Beaufort County's treasury is good, the overarching question remains: How much of Beaufort County's wealth does the government need to seize to survive?
