Recognized as “Rocky Balboa” by His Colleagues for Winning Tough Races

Press Release:

EDENTON, NC     Conservative State Senator Bob Steinburg (R-Edenton), a lifelong Republican who is known by his colleagues for winning the tough fights for conservative values, today filed with the Board of Elections to run for re-election in newly drawn State Senate District 2 (Carteret, Chowan, Halifax, Hyde, Martin, Pamlico, Warren, and Washington counties) saying:

"I will never back down from the fight to protect our conservative values from the radical left-wing assault that threatens our families and way of life here in Eastern North Carolina. I'm honored to be known as the Rocky Balboa of the State Senate, because I've been fighting for the God-fearing, hard-working people of this region and won tough battles at the capital and the ballot box. If the voters will send me back to work for them in the Senate, they can count on me to stand with conservative backbone day after day against political insiders, establishment compromisers, and anyone else who attacks us. I've always promised voters that I will serve as a Christian, conservative, and Republican - in that order. I remain as committed as ever to those values and would be honored to keep fighting for them."

A retired businessman and proud member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited, Sen. Bob Steinburg serves Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington counties in his second term in the State Senate, where he serves as the Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Prison Safety Reform, Chairman of the State and Local Government Committee, and Chairman of Appropriations on General Government and Information Technology.

Notably, Steinburg is the only North Carolina legislator serving on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, which is responsible for protecting and managing marine fisheries within 15 states' jurisdiction. Specific policy work on the commission includes: interstate fisheries management, fisheries science, habitat conservation, and law enforcement.

He was nominated to the North Carolina Republican Party's Hall of Fame for his years of service for conservative causes and awarded the Rocky Balboa Award on November 30, 2020 by the State Senate Republican caucus for taking "the best punches they had to offer, then walking away with a victory, and a majority." Bob and Marie have two sons and two grandchildren.
