James Worthy Woolard | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. James Worthy Woolard, age 85, a resident of Hodges Road, Washington, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

    Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 31, 2022 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington, conducted by Pastor Robert Travis.

    Mr. Woolard was born In Beaufort County on September 12, 1936. He was the son of the late Worthy Woolard and Stella Spain Woolard. Mr. Woolard worked as a supervisor at White Rock Beverage Company for 38 years. He attended Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church. In his spare time, Mr. Woolard enjoyed piddling and building things.

    "James was not only a loving father and grandfather to his own children and grandchildren. He was also "Papa", "Papa James", "Mr. James", and "Granddaddy" to over four hundred and sixty children in the fifty-seven years he and his wife had their daycare."

    On December 11, 1959, Mr. Woolard married the former Carolyn Tyer, who survives.

    Surviving with this wife are two daughters, Luanne Martin and husband, Bobby of Washington, Gina Woolard of Washington: two grandchildren, James Daniel Woolard and wife, Jessica of Bath, Macy Martin of Washington and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Anthony Woolard and Natalie Renee Woolard.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Woolard was preceded in death by his son, James Anthony Woolard.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
