Hil for Prez - 2016 | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's Note: Jim Bispo's weekly column appears in the Beaufort Observer.

It was just a little over four years ago that the Hillary for Prez Bandwagon was rolling right along without a worry in the world. But suddenly it was not only slowed down; it was completely derailed and ground to a rather undignified halt. She was supposed to be the Dem's nominee to run for President in 2008, but it didn't seem to work out that way.. Upset by a young tyro. What a comedown.

Sure enough, here comes a clean cut smooth talking guy whose record as a state legislator and then as a U.S. Senator was largely one of voting "present". He brought Teleprompters with him. The constancy of Teleprompters around him adds new meaning to the term "ubiquitous". It almost falls into the "don't leave home without it" mantra we hear about American Express credit cards. He had (and has) good speech writers; he reads very well. Thomas Sowell calls much of what he says, "Plausible lies". (Sowell is right about that.) And, as much as I hate to admit it, he has a really "effective" strategist running things for him. That would be David A. I didn't say "good" strategist because that implies goodness. I didn't say honest strategist because that implies honesty. I said "effective" because he gets results. The less we worry about how he does it, the better for everyone involved. He gets results!!

So what happened to Hil?? She got relegated to the State Department. A good way to keep an eye on her and keep her out of the cat-bird seat for at least four years while the "young tyro" pretended to run the country. Keeping her on the payroll was a stroke of genius from the standpoint of the Dems. Even her husband couldn't really run his mouth too much about how the country is being run (or not run) with Hil there "helping". We can only wonder how much of a strain that was on him. (Maybe not so much; after all he was able to do a lot of "solo" traveling.) Hmmm...

The down side of working in the Anointed One's Administration is that Hil seems to have picked up some bad habits. When things are going well, she is right there to take the credit - much like her boss (and virtually every other politician) does. When things aren't going so well she is really hard to find as she either takes extended trips or becomes subject to all manner of maladies, ranging from an upset stomach to being light headed and experiencing an immaculate concussion (as Laura Ingraham would say) as the result of an alleged fall. In defense of her unavailability to testify publically we are told by a Dem. Strategist (whatever that is) that during her tenure she has visited over one hundred countries. The connection between visiting over one hundred countries and seeming to dodge testifying before Congress eludes me. Surely that isn't just a "talking point". Perhaps she has learned by watching her boss - or perhaps her husband.. (On one of her trips we saw film of what looked like some "girls night out" type behavior. Not so good for a Presidential Candidate. Of course by the next election she will be 69 years old and that type of behavior will surely not manifest itself - at least publically.)

In the Clinton State Department, following the Benghazi debacle four folks in fairly respectable positions of authority reportedly "resigned" their positions. It used to be that when someone resigned, they resigned. They were gone. And when the resignation was under duress (as these either were - or should have been), they were often admonished to not let the door hit them on the way out. But guess what?? Apparently in the "Clinton State Department", when one resigns a position, they resign that position, which leaves them free to be reassigned to some other equally prestigious (and presumably well paying) position. We all know that the State Department has long had their own way of expressing things which made their pronouncements nearly incomprehensible. But translating those pronouncements hardly ever required such careful parsing. Apparently now it does. . Could this be something else that has been learned at the knee of the Anointed One (her boss)?? Clearly, what comes out of the State Department these days must be parsed just as carefully as what comes from the Anointed One.

In the meantime, we are left to wonder if history really does repeat itself. In the last election cycle, the mainstream media had Hil crowned as the Dem's 2012 candidate for Prez for a long time before the primary competition got serious. That was before the young upstart from Chicago showed up and against all odds trounced her in the primaries. So here we are only three years away from the next presidential primary season and, again, the mainstream media is already beginning to talk as though she will be the Dem candidate for Prez. All I can tell you is to be on the lookout for a young, seemingly bright, clean cut, well spoken newcomer....

And please don't even think of suggesting that electing Hil will result in a reciprocal "two for the price of one" deal. That one has already been tried... That didn't turn out to be such a good deal. When all was said and done it didn't work...

In the meantime the mainstream press continues to propel her 2016 candidacy along.

    D'ya think??
