Carolyn L. Cox | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Carolyn L. Cox, age 74, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Sunday November 20, 2022, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

    A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday November 26, 2022, at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church in Blounts Creek. The service will be officiated by Pastor Joel Cannon and Pastor Tim Whealton. A private committal will be held at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday November 25, 2022, at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Cox was born in Beaufort County on July 21, 1948, daughter of the late Floyd Lewis and the late Minnie Lewis. She was a 1966 graduate of Chocowinity High School. On February 10, 1967, she married Ottis Gordon Cox, Jr. who survives. She worked at Beaufort County Community College as an administrative assistant and retired from there after 30 plus years. As a dedicated member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church, she served as a former piano player, member of the choir, and a member of their ladies' auxiliary. Along with her church family she greatly enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. One of her pleasures was attending their ballgames. She also enjoyed puzzles and playing cards.

    Surviving along with her husband: Ottis G. Cox, Jr. of the home is her son: Ottis G. Cox III and his wife Kay of Kernersville; Caroline R. Cox of Chocowinity; and two grandchildren: Allie and Avery Cox.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 77, Blounts Creek, NC 27814.
