Joyce Smith Woolard | Eastern NC Now

    Joyce Smith Woolard, 78, of Morganton, NC and a former Washington, NC resident died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, following a period of declining health.

    She was born in Beaufort County, NC on December 13, 1934 and was a daughter of the late George Washington Smith and Thelma Lee Bennett Smith. Mrs. Woolard was a graduate of East Carolina University and a member of Old Ford Church of Christ in Washington, NC.

   Surviving are her son, Dennis Woolard, III and his wife, Kim; her daughter, Sally W. Sandy and her husband, Joseph; and three grandchildren, Samantha Woolard, and Joey and Patrick Sandy, all of Morganton. She is also survived by a brother, Delma Smith and his wife, Mary of Chocowinity, NC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Betty Sue Harris of Morrisville, NC, Sonny and Frances Swain of Greenville, NC, Bill and Kathy Woolard of Atlantic Beach, NC, and Reba Smith of Chocowinity; and many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Woolard, Jr.; brothers, Otha and Dennis Smith, her twin sister, Loyce Godley and her husband, Max; and by sister, Evelyn Lilley.

    The family will receive friends on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Hillside Funeral Home and Cremations in Washington, NC. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Woolard’s honor to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
