Legislators who supported Same-Sex Marriage must ‘Answer to the Almighty,’ Bishop Patrick Wooden says | Eastern North Carolina Now

Politicians who voted to codify same-sex marriage in federal law this month will answer to God for their immoral actions, says a long-time Raleigh pastor.

“The God of the Bible has the last say,” said Bishop Patrick Wooden Sr., pastor of Raleigh’s Upper Room Church of God in Christ. Wooden also serves as the Bishop for the Third Ecclesiastical District of the Church of God in Christ, which is made up of more than 40 churches from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

The new law, the Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 8404), defines marriage as “between 2 individuals” for federal purposes and overturns the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as the union of one man, one woman.

President Biden signed it into law after it passed the House of Representatives, 258-169, and the Senate, 61-36. Both North Carolina senators, Republicans Thom Tillis and Richard Burr, voted for it.

“We’ll all have to stand before a Mighty God, a Holy God. And we’re gonna have to give an account of this,” Wooden said in a video posted on the church’s YouTube channel. “And Tillis and Burr and all the rest of them who jumped ship and voted for this — the whole Democrat Party … you’re gonna have to answer to the Almighty. And let’s see what House Speaker is gonna stand with you when you try to explain it to God.”

Wooden quoted Psalm 82: “God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. … But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.”

“Man says two individuals,” Wooden said. “We’re gonna see who’s gonna have the last word. Because my brothers and sisters, I’m going to tell you: Man can make it legal, but man cannot make it right.”

God’s Word, Wooden said, is the sole authority on marriage.

“The Bible says in Genesis 2:24, ‘Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife … and they shall be one flesh.’ The biblical definition is a union not between individuals … but it is a union between a man and a woman.”

The modern debate over marriage, Wooden implied, is a fulfillment of what was prophesied in 2 Timothy 3:13: “But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”

“You’re deceived, you’re going down a road of deception if you think that it is a good thing to pass and protect and put in special provisions for perversion,” Wooden said.

He added, “Same-sex marriage is an oxymoronic statement. It’s a lie from the pit of hell.”

Eventually, the federal government will come after the church on the issue, Wooden predicted.

“It won’t today. But … as the commercials keep being run, as the public service announcements [continue] … they’ll be coming after the church. And they’ll be saying to the church: Drop the judgment.”

Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, said, Bishop Wooden is “one of the few, strong, faithful preachers left to this age when mainline churches and their leadership are leaving sound doctrine and falling away. “You might as well hear someone boringly read from the encyclopedia, as to hear some of these apostate preachers speak. There is no life in their words.”

“If I should die before Bishop Wooden and he is still in good health, I want him to preach my funeral. Does that tell you how much I think of him?” added Rev. Creech.

Bishop Wooden influence for Christ extends far and wide, especially in the black community. He has been on the frontlines of many of today’s social issues, addressing them from a strong biblical worldview.

The fiery Wooden was first catapulted into the national limelight when in the early 2000s he spearheaded the “Keeping Christ in Christmas Campaign” – a reaction to businesses whose policies required saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.

Bishop Wooden has been a guest on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, TCT, WRAL, and The O’Reilly Factor. He has also been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Al-Jazeera, Associated Press, Huffington Post, Charisma, Whole Truth and a host of local and national media outlets.
