Having worked in state government in the department that oversaw those hospitals, you have at best a half truth. It was the left saying that it was more humane to put most of the mental patients out on the streets responsible for the major downsising of mental hospitals. Tht fact that the Democrats who then controlled federal spending because they controlled Congress did start cutting funds played some role, but the ultimate decision was made at the state level, and that again was by the Democrat Jim Hunt admnistration, backed by a Democrat controlled legislature.

I'm sorry CT, none of what you said is actually true. Federal money for state mental hospitals dried up under RR in the 80s. Its a fact. BTW the cruel part was many of the men who hit the bricks were Vietnam Vets. The whole thing was awful. There are other factors but my statement is accurate.

Mental hospitals have always been a state function, NOT a federal function. The left thought it was better and more humane to put the inmates out on the street. The major downsizing of mental health hospitals in North Carolina occured during the administration of Democrat Governor Jim Hunt. The drunks and drug addicts were previously the long term homeless, and this added a big new component to them.

Those homeless in past years would have been housed in mental health facilities, but the left decided it was more "humane" to turn them out on the streets. Besides the mentally ill, most of the rest are drug addicts.

It is hilarious that in America, socialism as an "ism" has replaced good old "communism". Further, Americans do not distinguish between "democratic socialism" practised in much of Europe except for fascistoid Hungary under that deranged autocrat Mr. Urban who inspires Orange Hair (alias Donald Trump) and his supporters in outer Europe like Serbia. It is amazing that the richest country in the world does not have money to educate its population, nor house the millions of people living on the streets in their sleeping bags all over this so-called "Number One democratic and Christian (Jesus Chr. will turn in his grave early this year because the evidence will show Evangelical Americans are the least Christian in their ways) country in the world!

The War on History is as integral a part of the Woke revolution as it was Mao's Cultural Rebolution. In America, they started with Confederate leaders, then moved on to famous explorers and American founding fathers. They continued from Confederate leaders to Union figures of the War Between the States. Recently, Democrats in Congress filed a bill to remove the Lincoln statute in Lincoln Park in Washington, DC that celebrates the freeing of the slaves and was actually paid for by freed slaves. That is exactly what Mao did with Chinese history.
