News release:

    Beaufort County Schools held its annual Middle School Battle of the Books competition on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

    Battle of the Books is sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA). Its goal in sponsoring this academic competition yearly is "aimed at promoting love of reading and familiarity with the best in literature for young people." This competition is open to middle school students in grades 6-8. Students are given a list of 27 books compiled by members of the NCSLMA and must answer questions gleaned from those books in a quiz-bowl type tournament.

    P. S. Jones took its second consecutive title as Beaufort County champion and, as a result, will represent BCS in the regional competition on April 17, 2013.

Jones Middle School are Zanasia Cratch, Mary Dixon, Thomas Edwards, Hannah Gahagan, Emma Guereschi, Ashley Jarvis, McCray Jefferson, Alyssa Krajewski, Logan Little, Ben McKeithan, Marie Mendoza, Anayeli Morgado Cervantes, Ben Morris, Carolyna Padilla, Zack Pagnani, Kacey Pearden, Hailey Respess, Toneasia Roberson, Freddy Tellez Salas, and Mary Grace Wilder. Coaches are Janet Calloway, Dawn Landen, Lisa Mayo, and Sharon Peek.
