    Mr. Joseph Louis "J. L." Woolard, age 78, a resident of 1634 Terrapin Track Road, Washington died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home.

    Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday March 30, 2013 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, conducted by Rupert Wallace and Mike Caton. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Phillip Lee, Stonie Woolard, Luther Davis, Jimmy Swain, Donald Wallace, Robert Waters, Elwood Swain and Eddie Gurganus.

    Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on August 16, 1934. He was the son of the late Henry Herman Woolard and Irene Woolard Woolard. Mr. Woolard attended Washington, Bath and Pinetown Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Woolard was Maintenance Supervisor at Beaufort County Community College, retiring in October of 1996. He was a member of the Rosemary Church of Christ.

    On May 25, 1955, Mr. Woolard married the former Thelma Blanche Lilley, who survives.

    Mr. Woolard is survived by his wife, Thelma of the home and one son, Lewis H. Woolard of Washington and his fiance? Susan K. Johnson of Chesapeake, VA and step sister, Carol Faye Delke and husband Lin of Georgia.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Woolard was preceded in death by daughter, Wanda Lynn Woolard.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday March 29, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home, 1634 Terrapin Track Road, Washington.
