Bill Barr Shuts Down Claim From Top Democrat That He Ended Criminal Probe Involving Biden Bribery Doc | Eastern NC Now

    Former Attorney General Bill Barr is pushing back on remarks that House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) made this week claiming that Barr had shut down an investigation into a document from an FBI confidential source that alleged that then-Vice President Joe Biden was involved in a criminal bribery scheme.

    "It's not true. It wasn't closed down," Barr said in an interview. "On the contrary, it was sent to Delaware for further investigation."

    Barr's remarks came in response Raskin claiming on Monday that Barr ended an investigation into an FBI document that allegedly claims that Biden accepted a $5 million bribe from an adversarial country.

    "What I know is that the FBI, Department of Justice team under William Barr and Scott Brady, in the Western District of Pennsylvania terminated the investigation, they said there were no grounds for further investigative steps," Raskin claimed after viewing the document with Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY). "So they ended that."

    Comer told reporters after viewing the document that he would hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress after the bureau refused to hand over the document. The FBI is now reportedly willing to let the entire Committee view the document as early as Wednesday, CNN reported.

    House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that if Wray shows the entire Committee the document, Republicans will drop their efforts to hold Wray in contempt.

    "All he has to do is follow through and allow everybody on the committee" to view it, McCarthy said. "If he would supply that to them, there wouldn't be a contempt [vote]. That's all we're asking him to do. It's rational. It's sensible. It's what his responsibility is to do. If he won't follow through on the most basic things, then he'll be held in contempt."

    Comer also told reporters on Monday that "FBI officials confirmed that the unclassified FBI generated record has not been disproven, and is currently being used in an ongoing investigation."

    "The confidential human source who provided information about then-Vice President Biden being involved in a criminal bribery scheme, is a trusted, highly credible informant who has been used by the FBI for over 10 years, and has been paid over six figures," he added.
