Mrs. Jean Hamilton Thomas, age 87, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday August 16, 2023, at ECU Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

    Mrs. Jean Hamilton Thomas, age 87, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday August 16, 2023, at ECU Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

    A funeral service will be held 12 Noon on Saturday August 19, 2023, at Second Baptist Church in Washington officiated by Pastor Ronnie Davis. A burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Elders, Deacons, and men of the church will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Thomas was born in Wake County on February 13, 1936, daughter of the late Turner Micheaux Hamilton and the late Beaulah Howell Hamilton. She attended Rosewood High School. On June 10, 1966, she married Billy Ray Thomas who preceded her in death on November 4, 2015. She retired from DuPont of Kinston as an inspector. Her hobbies were gardening, traveling, bowling, and she loved spending time with her great grandson Sawyer Barnes. Mrs. Thomas loved her family and her church family at Second Baptist Church and was very active as long as her health permitted.

    Survivors include her children: Cheryle O. Barnes and her husband Steve of Williamston, and Brad Randall Thomas and his fiancée Renee Morgan of Richlands; grandchildren: Seth Barnes and his wife Kelly of Greenville, Zac Morden of Michigan, Shawn Thomas of Jacksonville, and Kayllee Limbert and her husband Larry of Jacksonville; and great grandchildren: Sawyer Barnes of Greenville, Madison Limbert of Jacksonville, Caleb Limbert of Jacksonville, and Michael Limbert of Jacksonville.

    Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death, along with her parents and husband by her daughter: Dona Morden; brothers: Milton Hamilton, William Hamilton, Earl Hamilton, and Jimmy Hamilton; and sisters-in-law: Ada Hamilton and Betty Hamilton.

    Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church, P.O. Box 114, Washington, NC 27889 or Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC.
