Ignoring the Real Impacts of “Parents Bill of Rights” | Eastern North Carolina Now

NC Schools Must now follow “Parents Bill of Rights.” Here’s how things will change that’s the title of an article in yesterday’s Raleigh News and Observer that describes how the recently passed legislation will impact the classroom and our schools.

NC Schools Must now follow "Parents Bill of Rights." Here's how things will change that's the title of an article in yesterday's Raleigh News and Observer that describes how the recently passed legislation will impact the classroom and our schools.

My quick read generated two complaints.

First, the article includes comments from two individuals who support the legislation and comments from ten individuals who oppose the Parents Bill of Rights. Let's see ten versus two? Would anyone consider that balanced reporting?

Second, is it possible for a newspaper to do a story on the impact of Parents Bill of Rights in schools and not solicit any comment from those most impacted by the legislation - parents? Do their views on how their rights have been strengthened and parental authority restored not matter?

Once again the News and Observer reminds us why North Carolina needs a Parents' Bill of Rights.
