Israeli-Owned Cargo Ship Struck By Iranian Terrorist Attack In Indian Ocean: Report | Eastern North Carolina Now

    A massive cargo ship owned by an Israeli billionaire was reportedly the victim of an Iranian terrorist attack on Friday in the Indian Ocean.

    The Jerusalem Post noted that the news was first reported by the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen channel, which is affiliated with the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah.

    The Malta-flagged CMA CGM SYMI cargo ship was targeted by a triangle-shaped, bomb-carrying Iranian Shahed-136 "kamikaze" drone while in international waters, a senior U.S. defense official told the Associated Press.

    The official said that the U.S. believes the attack was carried out by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG), a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) that is comprised of the hardline faction of Iran's military.

    CMA CGM SYMI is owned by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, which is ultimately controlled by Israeli businessman Idan Ofer.

    "The attack is likely to have been targeted, due to the vessel's Israeli affiliation through Eastern Pacific Shipping," the private intelligence firm Ambrey told the AP. "The vessel's AIS transmissions were off days prior to the event, indicating this alone does not prevent an attack."

    The attack came less than a week after Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen seized the Bahamas-flagged Galaxy Leader cargo ship in the Red Sea, which was leased to a Japanese company from a British company that is partially owned by an Israeli businessman.

    Numerous heavily armed fighters jumped off a helicopter onto the ship, taking its 25 crew members hostage-none of whom were Israeli citizens.
