    Mr. Gilbert Howard Newman, Sr., age 85, a resident of Pantego, NC died Saturday December 16, 2023, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

    A graveside memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday December 18, 2023, at St. Clair's Church of Christ Cemetery officiated by Craig Hagen.

    The family will receive friends at Mr. Newman's home following the service.

    Mr. Newman was born in Pamlico County on January 30, 1938, son of the late Richard Dudley Newman, Sr., and the late Muriel Wahab Newman. On July 26, 1957, he married the former Sylvia Patricia(Patsy) Credle, who preceded him in death on October 27, 2015, after fifty-eight years of marriage. He was a retired lineman with Tideland Electric Membership Corporation in Pantego. His hobbies were woodworking, building swings, fishing, playing music and being a collector of anything he thought was of value. He was a member of Belhaven Masonic Lodge 509 A.F. & A.M. and a member of Sudan Shriners in New Bern.

    Survivors include his children: Gilbert H. "Bert" Newman, Jr. (Rebecca) of Winterville, Phyllis N Cordon (Rondol) of Washington, Karen N. Tetterton (Toby) of Bath, and Sylvia E. Newman (Karen) of Raleigh; sister: Florence Abel of Washington; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patsy, a grandson: Tyler Joel Tetterton; his brothers: Dickie, Tommy, Mitchell, and Harvey Newman; and his sisters: Nancy Williams and Nell Sears.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 529 Moye Blvd., Greenville, NC 27834.
