Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) endorsed former President Donald Trump for president on Sunday, saying that Trump had the leadership needed to fix the crises created by the Biden administration.

Rubio, a former presidential rival of Trump in 2016, said that he chose Trump because of his record on foreign policy and that the former president would stand up to special interests and bureaucrats. Rubio's announcement came one day before the Iowa caucus, the first presidential primary voting of the year.

"When Trump was in WH I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn't cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us," Rubio posted on X. "I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created. It's time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!"

With Rubio's announcement, both Florida senators have now backed Trump for the GOP nomination over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with Sen. Rick Scott announcing his support for Trump in November.

The latest polls from Iowa indicate that Trump has a commanding lead over former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, DeSantis, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Iowa has been hit with frigid temperatures and snow, meaning turnout may be down depending on weather conditions.

Before Rubio's announcement, Trump picked up Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee's endorsement on Friday and Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) on Saturday.

"I realize President Trump greatly aggravates the left and the national media. I believe that is a small price to pay for righting this ship of state which is so greatly listing. I hope Republicans will join me in nominating President Trump," Risch told POLITICO.

More than 20 Republican senators have endorsed Trump, including Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), the third highest-ranking Republican in the Senate.

"When President Trump was in office, we had the best economy in my lifetime ... we had energy independence, our enemies feared us, and we had a secure border," Barrasso said last week. "And now under Joe Biden, we have high prices, we have a wide-open border. What's happened at the border, the surrender at the border has allowed eight million illegal immigrants into the country."
