Throw the bums out! Here are our picks in the March Primary | Eastern North Carolina Now

By:   Observer Editorial Team

Political pundits beat their chests and announce their most recent discovery during every election. They say “This is the most important election in our history”.  The simple truth is whatever the next election is, it is the most important election in our history.  This is true because the next election will determine our future, at least until the next election.

Whoever wins the 2024 elections may well determine whether we continue on our path toward a socialist dictatorship or make the turn back to our roots as a Constitutionally directed democratic republic. Our evolution toward socialism had its seed planted in the 1930’s and took strong root during the 1980’s.  It is now a tree that will require a political axe to control.  Two generations of Americans have been fed the political pablum that it is up to government at all levels to provide for (all of the) individual’s needs.  This evolved during the last two generations to the point that the majority of people younger than 50 years of age cannot distinguish between socialism and capitalism.  Here is a hint of the differences.  Socialism focuses on the government and the welfare of groups, races and equity.  Capitalism focuses on the independence of the individual, his success and well-being.

The people who are elected during the 2024 elections are going to lead us deeper into socialism or they are going start restoring our constitutional democratic republic.  Many believe the burden of government rests entirely on the shoulders of the President of the United States.  A lot of this burden does. However, our County and State officials are just as important.  Local officials who have resisted Federal mandates have historically made a difference.  So, have Presidents who have resisted socialist demands from local and state officials.  We believe courageous local officials are very important in keeping us on the road to capitalism.

The political scene in Eastern North Carolina is dominated by Republicans. All Republicans are not the same.  There are two factions within the Republican Party.  One is composed of conservative capitalists and the other is liberal, big government and big spenders.  Fortunately, there are enough independent (unaffiliated) voters who vote conservative to maintain a conservative majority.  Beaufort County consistently voted conservative in every race during the 2020 and 2022 elections.

During the smoke and mirrors of primary elections voters can become confused about who is who.  Internet advertising, television and newspapers along with Russian and Chinese interference can make knowing who to vote for difficult.  We will tell you what we think about some candidates.

Donald J. Trump should be returned as president because he is now an experienced politician.  He controlled the economy and kept us out of war during his term.  Joe Biden has done the opposite.

The Governor candidate should be Dale Folwell, a Certified Public Accountant and experienced politician.  Most recently he has been our State Treasurer, has fearlessly taken on the most powerful lobby in the State, Blue Cross, made important improvements to the state retirement system, and showed up for work every day.  His opponent is the Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson.  Robinson’s only claim to fame is that he gives a good speech, has failed to show up for most of the Council of State meetings, and to effectively preside over the State Senate.  Robinson has no political experience and has failed to take any position on important issues in the Senate.  Rumors have it that Robinson is carrying a lot of baggage with issues involving handling campaign money.  This, in addition to his failure to participate in government during the past four years indicates a severe lack of leadership skills.  It is highly questionable that Robinson can beat any Democrat candidate for Governor.  Vote for Folwell.

We like Hal Weatherman for Lieutenant Governor and Charles Dingee for Auditor.  We put Colby Hammonds over Steve Troxler for Commissioner of Agriculture because Troxler follows the liberal line when he gets the chance.

Mike Causey should continue as Commissioner of Insurance because he has done a good job and he has proven his honesty by reporting those who have tried to make payoffs. Luke Farley for Commissioner of Labor and Chad Brown for Secretary of State.

It is time for a change in the Superintendent of Public Instruction office. Vote for the fresh face of Michele Morrow.  The present Superintendent has played a lot of games with the “woke crowd” and is not conservative enough, if at all.

Vote for A.J. Daoud for Treasurer to replace the seat vacated by Dale Folwell.  We like Hunter Murphy for Seat 15 of the Court of Appeals.

Getting closer to home, former Representative Michael Speciale is running for the Senate seat vacated by Jim Perry.  Speciale is a down to earth conservative who stood fast on conservative issues. He founded the Freedom Caucus during his 8 years in the House of Representatives. His opponent, Bob Brinson, only political experience is as a first term New Bern Alderman who has already voted to raise taxes.  Speciale never voted to raise taxes during his 8 years in the House.  Brinson is backed by the RINO faction in the Republican Party.

There are five candidates in the Beaufort County Republican Commissioner race.  There are four seats to be filled. Only one of the five will not lose this election.  Three candidates, Tandy Dunn, Steve Carawan and Hood Richardson have formed a conservative team.  You can only vote for one of these three.  However, in this race it is more important to know who to not vote for than whom to vote for. Do not vote for either Randy Walker or John Rebholz.  Both vote with the two Democrats on the Board.  Both are liberal.   Rebholz is working on public housing and Walker made pledges to get financial support from the Conservative Club to get elected and then voted liberal when elected.

Three of the five vacant seats on the school board have primary races.  The conservative candidates are Brian Wood running in the Pinetown District, Raymond Start in the River Road District and Stacey Davis in the Old Ford District.  All are conservatives dedicated to doing away with the “woke” agenda in our schools.  They are opposed to the LGBTQ, new math, and Critical Race Theory teaching. They prefer textbooks instead of computerized teaching.   Carolyn Walker, the opponent of Ray Start is married to Commissioner Randy Walker. While there are no laws against this kind of double dipping, we believe this is unethical.  The Walkers are two liberal voters.

Notice that we are supporting only two incumbents.  They are Mike Causey for Commissioner of Insurance and Hood Richardson, Beaufort County Commissioner.  Both have proven conservative and honorable records.

If you want to change government, you need to change the people who are running government.  If this slate is elected in the primary and again this fall we will be on the road to getting our government and our nation back.

Thank you for your scouting report on these candidates. I try to do my homework before voting and look forward to your insights and views. I don't always agree to 100% of what you say but I do appreciate all of the work you put into your report.

Show me some numbers on this government that works.
Like: Rape, Murder, Carjacking, Cop-killing, Retail theft, Riots, destruction of public property, out-of-control immigration, rampant price increases, breakdown in our education system, and a weak military with inadequate leadership.

What you got is a pretty good government that works. Vote MAGA and you are voting for chaos and disfunction. Eventually, they turn on everybody.

HONORED at your support. Bloomberg Candidate is trying to take control of pension. He slammed Dale this past weekend in Charlotte Forum. Goggle the fact he arranged Bloomberg donations to Planned Parenthood and Control Control Groups. SPREAD THE WORD! #NoBloomberginNC

Remember Will Rogers's Quote, "We have the best politician's money can buy". We need to change that to having the best politicians who can represent the people and remember the U.S. Constitution. One of the most important races we have this term is the President, local school board and superintendent of public instruction.
