For Immediate Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory announced today that he has appointed former Representative David Grier Martin III to fill the vacant 34th House District seat after receiving a recommendation from the Executive Committee of the Wake County Democratic Party. The seat became vacant after the Honorable Deborah Ross departed after six terms to become general counsel at Triangle Transit.

"I'd like to thank Rep. Ross for her service to the State of North Carolina over the past 12 years and wish her the best of luck in her new position. I'd also like to welcome back Grier Martin to the General Assembly and I look forward to working with him in the future," said Governor McCrory.

Martin will represent the 34th House District seat, which includes the northern part of Raleigh in Wake County. Martin served eight years in the General Assembly, but declined to run in 2012 after redistricting put himself and Rep. Ross in the same district. Martin is a lawyer and graduate of Davidson College and the University of North Carolina School of Law.
