Weather Update: Tropical Storm Andrea, Second | Eastern North Carolina Now

News release:

    Here is the Latest Information:

This is going to be primarily a rain and wind event which will progress quickly across Beaufort County starting Friday morning and Gone by Midnight Friday night. We will be on the East side of the storm (area with the most rain and wind) as the current track takes the storm through Wilson county. All outdoor activities will require someone to watch for severe weather especially Friday during the event times.

See Attached PDF update from the NWS.

At the present time I am going to ask each of you to consider the following Safety issues: "Is the travel worth the risk?"

The heavy periods of rain will create ponding of water on Beaufort county roads and streets creating hydroplaning possibilities.

The winds should not be high enough to drop large trees, however, small limbs and plastic yard objects could find their way onto roads and streets causing motorist to swerve into oncoming traffic.

The driving of high profile vehicles (Vans, large SUV's and box trucks and tractor trailers) could lose traction or swerve into oncoming traffic so use caution around those vehicles.

Power lines could come down and no one should ever stop on them, pick them up or be anywhere near the lines.

Never drive through water covered roads when you can't see the actual road, because what you can't see could kill you.

As our employees and first responders travel they need to: "Be weather aware and alert to changing road conditions!".

    Please think Safety!
